Awards

  • WINNER 2023 - ‘Best in the World' at The Gourmand International Awards in the Lifestyle Category, for ‘Rekindling the Fire’ (written in collaboration with Martin Ruffley & published by Austin Macauley). We also received a prestigious ‘Special Award’ in the Food Culture: Authors Category.

  • Rekindling the Fire has been featured in the Irish Independent, Times, Examiner, and Connacht Tribune.

  • IRISH RESEARCH AWARD: 2010 - 2013. Won a 3-year full time, highly prestigious Irish Research Council Scholarship.

Artist award: Galway 2020: The Well Gathering: A Short Film

In 2020 Anna supported Galway Hooker Sailing Club’s application for a Galway Hooker Restoration Project. This successful award was part of the Western Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) / Coastal Community Projects in Galway.

2019: Successful funding for Culture Night. Anna organised an event at Katie’s Claddagh Cottage, Galway.

Stories, Songs and Music: From Inchagoill Island to Galway Bay.  In collaboration with Micheal O’Cinneide from Corrib Beo. Music & Song by Don Stiffe, Aine Maire Nic Aodh, Gerry Hanley & Joe Clancy. Percussive Dance by Aneta Dortová. Special Guest: Author Ultan Macken.

  • 2018: Successful Galway County Council Cultural Heritage Department and Creative Ireland Award, to work with Film Maker & Videographer, Paul Murphy on a mobile film-making project. Title: The ‘Lovely Anne’ Hooker Restoration Project.

  • 2018. Successful Culture Night Funding Anna organised an event at Katie’s Claddagh Cottage, Galway:

    ‘Cóitheach’ - Sound Installation & Presentation, by Selma Makela & Noah Rose at Katie’s Claddagh Cottage, Galway. Cóitheach - a sudden gust of wind, which comes out of nowhere, particularly noted along the cliffs. This work was originally made during the artists joint residency in Belmullet, North Mayo, as part of ‘Tír Sáile’ 2017. This unique installation was an exploration of the oral transmission of meteorological knowledge and language in Irish coastal areas. The artists work explored how common words and local knowledge of the sea and weather are falling into disuse and changing.

  • 2018: Successful Galway County Council Cultural Heritage Award. Project: Historical Landscapes in Modern Rural Ireland: Re-imagining The Visiting House. This work was in collaboration with Annaghdown community.

  • 2017: Successful Culture Night Award. Anna organised an event at Katie’s Claddagh Cottage, Galway: Back West Music. See photo below.

  • 2012 Anna won an award from The Galway Film Centre I.D Film Project to produce a documentary out of one of her intercultural development projects in the East Galway community of Doughiska, Roscam and Ardaun (it was one of four awards out of 200 applicants).

  • Co-produced and project managed ‘Making History’, a community documentary that used the tools of film-making to explore intercultural relationships in diverse social settings. This film was screened in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway, 18th, November 2012, and as part of the Galway Film Centre community screenings at the Galway Film Fleadh, on July 10th, 2013.  Making History was featured in local newspapers.

  • 2008 OXYGEN STUDENT MEDIA AWARDS: Nominated for an ethnographic radio documentary.
